Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Characters I Never Want to Meet

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. They offer this blog hop as a weekly prompt to help you gain new friends and visitors. You don't have to participate every week, but if you decide to post and join the blog hop for a week, Long and Short Reviews asks that you share your link on their weekly post on their website (it will be the top post on the home page each Wednesday morning). The link list remains open for new links for 48 hours. Then visit the other bloggers participating to see what they are talking about that week. Comments are appreciated.

When I first saw this topic, I thought it sounded great for Halloween. Being a person with a few phobias and a small person who isn't in the best of shape--at least not as far as strength and endurance go, there are many characters I wouldn't want to meet. Below are my top three.

I was never afraid of clowns until It was released. Never could finish the book, but made it through the television movie, which is where this cover comes from. Still like clowns, but wouldn't want to meet Pennywise anywhere at any time.

Do you know what I find so creepy about Hannibal Lecter? It's not that he eats people; well, that is totally creepy. It's his analytical mind and how charismatic he is. You would never know you were talking to someone who is happy to carve you up and eat your body parts.

Annie Wilkes, made even more frightening by the stellar portrayal by Kathy Bates in the movie, is every celebrity's nightmare. This was one of the last Stephen King books I read before deciding horror might not be the best genre for me. Misery dives into the psychosis of super fans who become so connected to characters that they can't let go. Wilkes was obviously unstable before she rescued Paul Sheldon, which comes to light in the book.

Do we share any of the same choices? Have you read these books? Who is a character you wouldn't want to meet?

Right! The actor in the movie did an amazing job of making him even more terrifying. Thanks for visiting, Lydia.

That one sure was, Jen. Of course, was creepier when they discovered the real being. Thanks for stopping by today.

Excellent choices. Pennywise is terrifying in a supernatural sort of way, and you're right about Hannibal Lecter -- it's not the murder or the cannibalism so much as it is the cold, analytical intelligence. Misery didn't hit me quite as hard, but it's still a great choice.

Stephen King really knows how to dig deep into our most primal fears.
