The Fobiles of Working in Online Book Promotion

In case I've never mentioned it before, I love what I do! Getting the chance to promote great books is something that this avid reader, writer, and editor truly enjoys.

There are a few drawbacks to the job, though. My "to be read" pile has ballooned from 40 books as of January 1st, to 52 books as of today. Even though I really should say no when I'm asked to review a book, if it sounds interesting, yes flies from my lips before my brain has the time to rein in the tongue. In addition to the books I receive as gifts, there are books from several book tour clients that are in my pile; and as the company promotes new authors each month, there are more books to add to that pile. In addition, I like to get to know my clients' books to promote them, so with 5 to 8 clients a month, that's another big chunk of reading to do.

Oh, and then there are former clients and writers I've met through hosting our clients, who I would like to feature at my blog when their new releases come out. I'm also game to promote any contest they have running.

But at the end of the day, despite the overcommitment, all the pressure to get those books read, and all the jockeying of emails, I still love what I do. I feel so fortunate that I met up with Pump Up Your Book Promotion at a time when they were looking for someone to come onboard.

It's a wonderful life!

You're great at what it, Cheryl. I guess it's always better to have a to-do pile, than have nothing to do, right? :)

I can totally sympathize, Cheryl. I have about 30 in my TBR pile--all for reviews. It can get overwhelming and my response time at the moment is pretty long, but I also love what I do.

And I feel bad when I receive a book and I don't get to the review for a while. Luckily, I think most of the books I have in my TBR pile right now are ones that I've bought from clients--because I feel it's important to support our authors, won from giveaways, or it was the case where every blogger who hosted an author received a copy.
