First Chapter Review: The Spymaster's Mistress by Pamela R. Winnick

 

I received the first chapter of The Spymaster's Mistress by Pamela R. Winnick, a historical spy novel, from the author's publicist. 

BLURB:  At the height of the American Revolution, seventeen-year-old Rachel must flee her home in New York City to escape the imminent British invasion. She settles with her aunt and uncle in Philadelphia—which is still free, but soon falls into enemy hands. COVER: What a beautiful cover! The dark background that surrounds her brings meaning to Rachel's dark and mysterious life as a spy; the delicacy of the flowers a symbol of how her life delicately swings in the balance; the torn edges of the paper speaking to how torn her heart is by her love for a British captain. This is a thoughtfully designed cover. 

FIRST CHAPTER: Rachel and her younger brother Gabriel have left their house to see George Washington before they leave New York City to live with their aunt and uncle in Philadelphia as the British continue their invasion of New York. A chance meeting alters both of their futures. 

KEEP READING: Definitely! This is a time period I truly enjoy, and the author has placed Rachel and Gabriel right in the thick of things from the start. There is a bit of backstory about the road to independence to help set the stage for what happens next. Looks like The Spymaster's Mistress will be a fabulous read.
