Will she solve the mystery in time or fall victim to the assassin? And can Jane resist the magnetic pull of attraction in this unfamiliar era? Transport yourself back to the richly detailed Regency world and join Jane on her unforgettable quest for justice and love. With vivid descriptions, gripping suspense, and passionate romantic encounters, To Murder a Marquis is a time travel adventure you won't want to miss. Embark on the journey today and discover why readers are raving about this unique, spellbinding tale of courage, connection, and timeless romance.

COVER: One of the reasons I've been drawn to Regency romance is that the cover art is always stunning. The cover for To Murder a Marquis clearly displays the genre with its elegant font and gold accents. I like how the marquis' face is partially hidden. The background of dark, mysterious woods ties into the meeting of the main characters in the opening chapter. This cover designer knows how to attract readers.

FIRST CHAPTER: Jane Amelia Carstairs is awoken from her nap under a tree by the furious barking of an unknown dog wanting her attention. Suddenly dressed in period costume, Jane wonders who carried out this odd prank. She decides to follow the distressed dog through the trees, where she discovers an even bigger surprise.

KEEP READING: Most definitely! Sheraton has chosen a first-person point of view for the opening book in her Regency Time Slip Mystery series, which is pleasantly unique. Jane quickly engages the reader as she ponders what the heck happened to her while she slept. I love when authors drop you right into the action, which Sheraton did so well. It appears Jane carries a bit of personal baggage into this story with her, so it will be interesting to see how much of an impact that has on her along the way. I loved this chapter so much that I ordered a Kindle version so I can read the rest at my leisure.

Book Excerpt:

Furious barking woke me from a very nice dream in which my ex-fiancĂ© Allan Hunter was on his knees, begging me to stay, and I had just flung his ring back in his face in a most satisfying manner. The fact he’d dumped me for a full-breasted bistro waitress called Tawnee—that’s right, with a double “e”—who clearly said all the right adoring things, had the intelligence of a single-celled organism, and was a tigress in the bedroom was something I chose to ignore.

The dog wouldn’t stop barking. I opened my eyes, and there he was, a beautiful russet-coloured retriever, barking like mad, but with his tail wagging. Still slightly dazed, I shook my head. What the hell was I doing lying under a tree? I was supposed to be in the library at Chelston Hall, helping Dad, who was in hospital in London with bronchitis, collate the archives of the Hadley family. I could almost hear him say, “Jane Carstairs, what on earth are you doing there when you should be working?”

The dog was still barking. I’m not afraid of dogs so I raised myself on one elbow. “Here, boy. What’s the matter?”

I held out one hand for him to come over and have a sniff as an introduction. The dog took a few steps forward, then ran back to his original spot, and barked once. Clearly, a clever canine. He was telling me something. But what? I struggled to sit up. For some reason, my clothes were constricting; something like a straitjacket encircled my chest. Instead of my casual T-shirt, jeans, and sneakers, I wore an ankle-length flowing dress, and short lace-up boots, along with a tight, short, long-sleeved jacket. I was in period costume straight out of Pride and Prejudice. Not funny! Someone had obviously pranked me but managing to undress and get me into this suffocating costume was beyond a joke. Plus, how did I get from sitting in a chair in the library to lying under a tree?

Back to the dog again, which now seemed very agitated. He ran back and forth a bit and whined. By pulling my dress and copious amounts of petticoat up to my knees, tearing something at the jacket shoulder in the process, I managed to stand. The dog ran off through the trees as if on a mission. Maybe someone was hurt, and the mutt was looking for help? Dogs can be so clever that way. Running in the narrow skirt was impossible so I hitched the skirt as high as I could and chased after the dog. Ten minutes later I arrived, panting, at the scene of a bloody accident. Bloody is no exaggeration. A man, also dressed in period costume—riding gear—lay on his back, his arms flung out. He was either asleep, or unconscious, or ... I didn’t even want to consider the last option. The dog stood next to him, its tail wagging. It looked at me, whining as if to say, “Help him.” I knelt and took a closer look. Robert William Edward Hadley, the Marquis of Coleston, lay before me. An arrow protruded from the top of his left shoulder, a massive amount of blood soaked the front of his fawn-coloured coat, and he looked very dead.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? & Mailbox Monday - May 5

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are, and about to be reading over the week. It's a great post to organize yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever-growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and was then taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date.

Welcome to the first Monday in May! It is the season of graduations, finals, and First Communions around here. This weekend, we also had our first microburst of the year. Lots of trees were down, and thousands were without power. It was quite a freaky storm. Not the usual weather event, but we see them more lately.

On a personal note, the last two weeks were an emotional roller coaster that I am happy to finally see come to a stop. I'm into week three of no day off. The spring season is crazy this year. Glad to be busy, but I am exhausted. I'm taking off Mother's Day even if I lose business over it. My life coach and I are working on the process of setting boundaries, not something I am great at... clearly.

Our annual Rick's Place Walk, Run, Remember fundraiser took place on April 26th to support Rick's Place in Wilbraham, MA. We offer free grief support to children, teens, and families. I was flying out to see the Lil' Princess that day, but I stopped by to help set up and grab a few photos.

We only stayed for the weekend, but got to see the Lil' Princess in her dance show. She is at the end of the front line.

Then we came back home in time for some of my colleagues and me to celebrate the Wilbraham Clean Up Day a few days early. You can't imagine how much trash there can be around the soccer fields.

Then things took an unexpected turn. We had to put Giggles down. I called the Lil' Princess, and she flew home from North Carolina this Friday after finals so she could say goodbye to her beloved kitty. Our cat quartet is now a trio, which seems very odd right now. We are so sad about this unexpected loss.

The Lil' Diva had a small dance recital on Saturday, which helped to distract us from our loss. She is in the middle with her arms out, wearing black leggings.

To say I am emotionally drained is an understatement. The husband's birthday is coming up on Wednesday, and I haven't figured out a single thing to do for him, and I have a meeting that night.

That's enough whining for a Monday. Let's talk about better things.

Loved this book so much. You can read my review here.

This giveaway is still open. You can enter for your chance to win here.

I would also love it if you would answer this short survey for bloggers. You can find it here.

Didn't touch this one this week. I probably won't read this until we leave for vacation in July. Too much going on these days.

Interview with A. S. Fenichel, Author of A Lady's Virtue

A.S. Fenichel gave up a successful career in New York City to follow her husband to Texas and pursue her lifelong dream of being a professional writer. She’s never looked back.

A.S. adores writing stories filled with love, passion, desire, magic and maybe a little mayhem tossed in for good measure. Books have always been her perfect escape and she still relishes diving into one and staying up all night to finish a good story.

Multi-published in historical, paranormal, erotic and contemporary romance, A.S. is the author of The Forever Brides series, the Everton Domestic Society series, and more. With several books currently contracted, A.S. will be bringing you her brand of edgy romance for years to come.

Originally from New York, she grew up in New Jersey, and now lives in the Southern Missouri with her real-life hero, her wonderful husband. When not reading or writing she enjoys cooking, travel, history, puttering in her garden and spoiling her fussy cat.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Hi, I’m A.S. Fenichel. Real name: Andrea Sue.

I’m married to a wonderful man and currently have one fur baby, an eleven-year-old cat named Molly Cat.

I write Regency historical romance with strong female characters who find many ways of being empowered in a time when that was difficult to do. My hero’s will touch your heart in ways you cannot yet imagine when they show you what they’re willing to risk for true love.

Where did you grow up?

I was born on Long Island, New York and grew up in New Jersey. I’ve also lived in the Netherlands and East Texas. Now, I call Southern Missouri home. We just built a home in the Ozarks and it’s fabulous. You can follow me on Instagram for a peek.

When did you begin writing?

I started writing in my early twenties, though I had lived with stories in my head all my life. It never occurred to me to write them down before then.

Do you write during the day, at night or whenever you can sneak a few moments?

Currently, I’m a full time writer. I write during the day. Usually two to three hours in the morning and a couple more in the afternoon depending on deadlines and editing responsibilities.

What is this book about?

A Lady’s Virtue is about Sylvia Dowder and Anthony Braighton. Sylvia has been jilted after a very long courtship and engagement. Unable to tolerate the disappointment of her family, she joins the Everton Domestic Society as their resident party planner.

Anthony has recently been raised to the title of Earl of Grafton. He was raised in America and never coveted a title. His mother and aunt want him to marry. He hires an Everton Lady to prove to them he doesn’t need a wife.

What inspired you to write it?

It started a long time ago. When I was thirty-five my first husband died suddenly. After, I wanted to write about that kind of loss, but just couldn’t do it. Finally, last year I wrote and published A Lady’s Honor about Markus losing his wife, Emma and finding love again with Phoebe, the Everton Lady assigned to save him from himself.

Once the Everton Domestic Society was created, I had all these fabulous women who needed their stories told. A Lady’s Virtue is the third book in the series, but all of the books can be read as stand alone.

Are you a member of a critique group? If no, who provides feedback on your work?

Not really. I have a group of writer friends who I can ask to beta read my books. There are enough of us that one or two are usually available to help out before the books goes to my editor at Kensington Publishing.

Who is your favorite author?

Living? It’s a toss up between Mary Jo Putney, Eloisa James and Jude Devereaux
Dead? Jane Austen

Do you have an agent or are you looking for one?

I am represented by Bookends Literary Agency.

Was the road to publication smooth sailing or a bumpy ride?

Oh Lord! Bumpy does not even cover it. It took me seventeen years of rejection before I was published. Three years later my publisher went out of business. Thankfully, I found another publisher, and I’m still with them.

Where can readers purchase a copy of your book?

A Lady’s Virtue is available at most vendors:

What is one piece of advice you would like to share with aspiring authors everywhere?

Join a writer’s group. Other Authors are very generous and you’ll need their support. This is a tough business.

What is up next for you?

A Lady’s Past is the forth and final book in the Everton Domestic Society series and will be available November 19, 2019. Diana is a brilliant scientist being chased by French spies when Jacques finds her alone in the snow. I think you’ll love them and the book.

Is there anything you would like to add?

Thank you so much for having me here today. I can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks of A Lady’s Virtue.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? - Mar 25

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's a great post to organize yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date.

Happy Monday! It looks like spring is finally here in Western Mass. Yesterday was beautiful and the rest of the week looks like it will be sunny and dry. That certainly helps my mood since leaving our church last weekend. We attended services with our former pastor at a church closer to our home. It was very nice, but I'm not ready to settle in. Thankfully, I'm spending a lot of time in the Word, so that keeps me focused on moving forward instead of looking at what was left behind.

In addition to keeping up with this Lenten devotional...

I am staying on top of my daily Bible reading as we make our way through the Bible chronologically this year. We are now into the book of Joshua from the Old Testament.

These two business books were small enough that I read through them quickly. I'll be implementing some of the strategies from the second one into my business. You can check out my reviews here.

This week I'll start this book for review.

These two are due next.

Then for May I need to review these two.

Finally, I need to get this one read.

Sounds like I will be busy. How about you? What are you reading? Anything great you would like to share?

Sometimes Monday comes too soon. That's certainly the case today. After a tough weekend--you can read about that here if  you like--I'm going to work on catching up since I've been a bit distracted.

I just finished this Regency romance novella and my review appears here.

I am also continuing with  my Lenten devotional.

Next up I need to read this mystery.

Then these next two follow.

What's on your reading list? Any good books you could recommend from your recent reads?

Book Review: Finding Lord Farlisle by Cassandra Dean

Finding Lord Farlisle by Cassandra Dean is a passionate and touching story of past friends reuniting after years apart.

Lord Maxim Farlisle was shipwrecked and presumed dead more than a decade ago. Many of his memories lost, he always recalled a girl with golden hair. As his memories returned, he made his way back to his childhood home to find Waithe Hall shut and deserted.

Lady Alexandra Torrence mourned the loss of her childhood friend Maxim, but her fascination with spirits leads her back to Waithe Hall to investigate mysterious activities seen by the villagers. Long since shuttered, she is surprised to discover a ghost of a different kind...Maxim in the flesh.

Both scared by their time apart, they begin to reconnect and fill in the years that they lost, realizing that all along, they have only wanted to be together.

What a fascinating novella. Dean writes an intriguing story of two people unexpectedly brought back together again. The characters are well-developed considering the short length, and you can't help but root for them to find a way of getting beyond those miserable years where Maxim was assumed dead; when he struggled with finding his way in a world where he didn't belong, with many of his memories gone.

Alexandra is likable from the start. You admire her spunk and her uniqueness. She brings out something in Maxim he thought lost. She makes him see his truth worth.

Absolutely love how the author worked Maxim's disability into the story line and kept it real.

I'm eager to see what the next book is all about.

EXCERPT

It was eleven years ago. The pain had faded, but had never truly left. Alexandra had thought
she’d learned to live with it. But now…now Maxim was here?

A thunderous scowl on his face, he made a noise of impatience. “I do not have the inclination for this, girl. Tell me why you have come.”

His voice crashed over her. That, too, had deepened with age, but it was him. It was him.

“It is you.” Joy filled her, so big it felt her skin couldn’t contain it. Throwing herself at him, she enveloped him in a hug.

He stiffened.

Embarrassment coursed through her. What was she thinking? Immediately, she untangled herself from him. “I beg your pardon,” she stammered. Always before they’d been exuberant in their affections. They’d always found ways to touch one another, even though that last summer, the one before he’d gone away, she’d begun to feel...more....

Clasping her hands before her, she brought herself to the present. Much had changed, now they were grown and he, apparently, had not died.

Maxim had not died.

A wave of emotion swept her, a mix of relief, joy, incredulity…. It buckled her knees and burned her eyes. He was alive. Maxim was alive.

Even the Worthington least likely to wed may find her perfect match

. . .

Marriage has worked out quite nicely for her older sisters, yet Lady Augusta Vivers is certain it would end her studies in languages and geography, and stop her from travelling. But when her mother thwarts her plan to attend the only university in Europe that accepts women—in Italy—she is forced to agree to one London Season. Spending her time at parties proves an empty diversion—until she encounters the well-traveled Lord Phineas Carter-Wood. Still, Europe awaits . . .

Phineas has studied architecture all over the world, yet Augusta is his most intriguing discovery yet. How can he resist a woman who loves maps and far-off lands? But her longing for all things foreign hinders any hope of courtship. When he learns her cousins have offered a trip to Europe, he secretly arranges to join their party. For he is determined to show Augusta that a real union is a thrilling adventure of its own. And when their journey is beset by dangerous obstacles, he gets far more opportunity than he bargained for . . .

He reached out his hand as if to touch her, then dropped it. “Please don’t be. I do know how much planning goes into a journey.” He grinned at her. “Even if you are not making all the preparations, you still have a great deal to do and many decisions to make. I apologize for not thinking of that.”

“Well, thank you, again.” She would miss him when she was gone, but she was glad he understood. “If we do not see much of each other over the next few days, good luck with your hunt for a wife.”

“Your wishes are appreciated.” The corner of his mouth cocked up into a crooked smile. “Not that I blame you for having your ambitions, but your leaving has made my search much harder.”

“Yes, well.” She brushed back a curl from her face. “Perhaps you will find a lady whom you can love.”

Taking her hand, he kissed it, and the warmth of his lips radiated up her arm. Good Lord, she’d forgotten neither of them wore gloves. Augusta became acutely aware of the strength in his lightly calloused hands, and removed her fingers from his grip. “I shall see you this evening.”

“Until then.” He inclined his head before taking his hat and cane from Thorton and strolling out the door.

She stared at Phinn until Thorton closed the door. Perhaps, after this evening, she should eschew entertainments altogether.

“Augusta,” Grace said, “you must decide if you’ll take Zephyr with you. Hector needs to know.”

“I do wish to take her with me.” She was leaving so much behind, but not her horse.

“Very well. I’ll send him a message. Please be ready to go in a half hour.”

“I will.” Phinn had more than surprised her this morning. If he loved her— No! She was not going to think about that. Allowing herself to fall in love with him would only lead to heartache.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? - Feb 25

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's a great post to organize yourself. Not only has Monday come again, so quickly, I can't believe we are at the end of February already. Am I getting old? :)

I've got a busy week coming up, so I took most of the weekend off. We set up the Lil' Princess' new bedroom furniture and I've got contractors quoting out some new floors and painting. Twenty years is enough with the old stuff. I don't know why I ever put carpets in this house. I'll be so happy when they are gone.

In  my reading world, you'll see I finished The Cumberland Bride and posted my review. Right now, I'm reading this book:

The month of March reviews looks like this:

I need to squeeze in these ones soon too:
