Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge - Books I've Recommended and Why

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. They offer this blog hop as a weekly prompt to help you gain new friends and visitors. You don't have to participate every week, but if you decide to post and join the blog hop for a week, Long and Short Reviews asks that you share your link on their weekly post on their website (it will be the top post on the home page each Wednesday morning). The link list remains open for new links for 48 hours. Visit the other bloggers participating to see what they discuss that week. Comments are appreciated.

Welcome to the last Wednesday in October. Today, we are sharing books we recommend and why. Well... I do that quite frequently because I am a book blogger. Here are three books I've recommended most often.

Beyond Me: Living a You-First Life in a Me-First World by Kathi Macias. This book is life-changing. Here is an excerpt from my review back in 2008:

Combining powerful stories with Scriptures and discussion questions, Macias provides readers with a tender and encouraging call to true discipleship, and therefore, a more meaningful and loving relationship with God and their neighbors.

This is not the kind of book that comes up in regular book recommendations due to its focused purpose; one must be seeking its call to discipleship. However, I have recommended this book more than any other book I've read through the years to those seeking to make a difference.

The Madhatter's Guide to Chocolate was written by a writing forum friend, Rhett Devane. If it weren't for Rhett's charming Southern fiction books, I might not have indulged in my first Karen White book. It was Rhett's quirky characters living in Chattahoochee, Florida, that introduced me to life in the South. If you enjoy quirky characters and southern charm, you need to read this book and its sequel.

If you're looking for a book that pits ultimate good versus ultimate evil, Stephen King's The Stand is it. I read this book in my twenties, still talk about it, and still recommend it. If you like King's suspense without a ton of gore, this is a good choice.

That's it for me this week. I'm on the road, but I will check in with you later.
