Review & Giveaway: Ghosting Academy by LS Delmore

Dark twists and turns, deception and lies, and a place where there is no true escape awaits you in Ghosting Academy by LS Delmore.

Amelie abandoned her home years ago to become an elite agent of the Academy. Though she has found support and stability there, the Academy uses her gifts for their own motives. When she and her fellow podmates graduate into strategic operatives, they discover deceptions and lies more sinister than they ever imagined. In a place where time has no meaning and your blood holds the keys to your soul, Amelia must decide if she will continue along this path or fight to escape the Academy's grip before its too late.

If you enjoy paranormal psychological thrillers, then Ghosting Academy is for you. While I haven't read the three prior books, I felt able to keep pace with the story and its characters, which were all well-defined and complex (loved that). I felt like Ghosting Academy crossed The Hunger Games and The Exorcist to come up with a deeply dark story about a controlling entity dictating a world filled with humans and non-humans they toy with for their own controversial reasons. Readers should be warned you might find some triggers within its pages and, since it is a series, readers are left with an open ending that likely picks up with the next book.

Ghosting Academy is not my typical read, so I struggled with parts of it. That said, Delmore has crafted a suspenseful tale whose twists and turns will keep you guessing what you know about the characters and their world. Dream sequences and in-game experiences bring depth to Amelie's life and keep you rooting for her as she decides whether to stay or go. Though this novel stands alone, I suggest starting with the first book in the series to reap the most understanding of these characters and how things have gotten to this point.

“You should take Amelie’s statement very seriously,” James said to the girl, winking. “If you make it to training, she will be your big sister. She has a hundred percent clearance rate on all the candidates she puts forward … any idea why?”

The girl shook her head, now leaning onto the table to put her breasts on display.

“As her podmate, I can tell you that Amelie has a hundred percent clearance rate because only about twenty-five percent of her trainees make it past her.”

The girl’s snake eyes were back on Amelie, slithering over her face.

“What does that mean?” she asked.

“It means she kills seventy-five percent of her candidates,” James said, smiling and raising his eyebrows.”

“James is prone to exaggeration,” Amelie replied, hand still on the gun.

“Okay, okay, thirty percent make it through,” James said, coming and putting a hand on Amelie’s shoulder. He had clocked her hand on the gun under the table.

“The actual number is thirty-four percent,” Amelie responded lightly.

“And right now, she’s got her hand on a gun that is strapped to the underside of this table,” James said.

The girl’s eyes flew wide and she lunged across the table toward them.

Instantly, Amelie pulled the gun from under the table and shot Alt Girl in the middle of the forehead.

Lexy is the author of the “Limerent” novel series. She has also been a travel writer and author of The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland Hong Kong and An Expat Mom’s unofficial Guide to Disneyland Paris. She is an ex rock musician, ex science grad, recovering attorney and now an expat writer. Her love of writing stems from an eclectic life. As a navy “brat,” she grew up in various states across the US until her father retired to North Carolina when she was a teenager. As an adult, she has continued this “tumbleweed” life, having since lived in 3 countries, 9 US states, and 21 cities around the world. But, through all this change, her love of writing has been the one constant. Writing the Limerent Series allows her to use her unusual past to help create new worlds. Lexy now lives in Paris with her husband and two very cool sons.

LS Delorme will be awarding a $20 Amazon/BN gift card
to a randomly drawn winner.

I received a digital copy of this book from the author. This review contains my honest opinions, which I have not been compensated for in any way.

Hi, Lexy here. Thanks so much for your review!! 🙏. I am actually very happy to have readers who may not usually read this sort of book, because all my books do tend to cross genre. This is book 4 of 8 books. The first four have been publishes which are Caio, Bright Midnights, Fanning Fireflies and Ghosting. The final 4 books have been written and are in various forms of editing. All of the first three books are stand alone foundation books. However, it probably is better to read Bright Midnights before Ghosting as it is the foundation of Amelie’s story. As I mentioned, I do play with genres across all the books. Caio is paranormal romance but also a legal thriller. Fanning Fireflies is paranormal historical fiction with a love story. Bright Midnights is a paranormal romance in a high school setting. So I hope you will check out the other books. 📚. Thanks again for your review 🙏
