Welcome to It's Monday! What Are You Reading? and Mailbox Monday.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's a great post to organize yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date.
Welcome to the last Monday in August. I am so ready for fall. We moved the Lil' Princess into her dorm last weekend. It was sunny and 90 degrees that day. It only got hotter from there. We left a bit of our heart in Wilmington as we said goodbye on Tuesday.
Saying goodbye
Wilmington Riverwalk
We stopped for supper in Petersburg, VA and ate at The Brickhouse Run, which is an English-style Pub. Looks like a lot of history in the immediate area, but rather rundown. The next morning, we ate breakfast at the South Star Diner in Mt. Holly, NJ. Food was amazing at both places.
Shepherd's Pie
Pancakes with strawberries
The end of the week was an emotional one. Friday afternoon, I visited the cemetery. I hadn't seen their gravestone since they added my mother-in-law's name. On Saturday, I packed up the rest of Yia-Yia's belongings and the mementos from my in-laws' celebration of life. The last box of donations will go out this week.
I know it was National Dog Day this weekend, but this is what I woke up to Saturday morning.
Oh, Travis!
I am in a good spot with reading. Loved Wendi Lou Lee's memoir. You can find my review here.
My review of this beautifully told story is here. This book is due out in February 2024.
I am mostly done with this one.
My review of this one will appear at The Children's and Teens' Book Connection on Aug 29.
After that, I don't have any scheduled book reviews until October, but these books are up next.
Upcoming virtual book tours:
- Victoria James: And The Mysterious Case of the Chilly Willies by Elizabeth Burns August 29 (review TC&TBC)
- Precious Burdens by Avery Sterling - August 31
- Murder at Midnight by Katharine Schellman - October 4 (review)
- Death and the Sisters by Heather Redmond - October 17 (review)
- Resparking Creativity by Fatemah Mirza & Sumayyah Rafiq - November 20 (review)
Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.
Though my physical mailbox is usually empty this time of year, I downloaded this one from NetGalley.

That's it from me this week. Two new listings coming, so I will be busy, but I'll definitely check out your blogs and say hi.

So many lovely photos. I hope Travis is okay in that picture.
Both meals look good. I'm glad its late and I'm not hungry.
You have so many nice looking children's books.
Have a good week with your listings and Happy Reading!
That is one of the hardest things - to have a child leave home. We've been empty nesters for some time, but still miss having kids around. Lots of great books. Happy reading!
Looks like a bittersweet week. Fortunately, you had some great books to help you through it.
My hubby and I are empty nesters, but they are always here, lol! So we are lucky for that. You have some wonderful books up this week. I hope you have a wonderful day, Cheryl.
I totally sympathise having sent a second child off to University this year, I eagerly await every semester break when they can come home.
Wishing you a wonderful reading week
Those pancakes are making me hungry. I can barely recall my college move in day - so many feelings. I love that Winter book of stories and may have to check it out. I've got so many books I need to read for September and October - it's rather scary.
It looks like your daughter is happy to be back at school. I know it is hard to let the kids go off on their own. Your food on the trip looks excellent. It's time for me to stop blogging and find something to eat. Your books look good too. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
Great pics. The Shepherd's pie looks delicious. I hope you have a great week!
Martha, that is exactly what I thought when I woke up and saw Travis twisted around like that.
Bev, it has been a challenging transition. I've been a mom for so long, I'm not sure how to be anything else.
Yes, Mark. Grateful for books.
Sounds wonderful, Jody.
Thanks, Shelleyrae.
Barb, my pile is large, but only a few commitments. Let's hope we both make it through September and October.
She loves her school, Kathy, which is such a blessing.
Yvonne, it was some of the best I've had; a bit heavy on the pepper, but still amazing.
Thanks for visiting, everyone.
Ooh that book of winter stories from around the world sounds so good!
I hope so, Emma. Thanks for stopping by.
