Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Wish I Had Read As a Child

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

What a neat topic this week. I've always been a huge reader, but even back then it doesn't seem like popular stories were my thing. I look at classic children's books now and wonder why I never read them.

Top Ten Books I Wish I Had Read As a Child

I also didn't read the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder as a kid. I tried in the fifth grade and couldn't make it through the first book. At the age of 21, I finally appreciated Wilder's keen eye for detail and how she captured life as a pioneer.

What are some books you wish you had read as a child?

Have you seen the film from a few years ago based on A Wrinkle in Time? It's great.

Aw, Owl Moon. I had forgotten about this one until I ran across it in a "great books for children"-type book and remembered the librarian reading it to us in school on one of our media center days. It's definitely a great one.

I have never read Where The Red Fern Grows and as a dog and dog book lover, I'm not sorry about that.

Lydia, I haven't seen the film. I'm not much of a TV or movie person.

RS, I had forgotten a few of these, too. That's why these memes are so great in nudging the memory.

Angelique, you're right. They really are good ones.

Thanks for visiting, everyone.

Ooh nice ones! I remember I came into a copy of Alice in Wonderland around 4th grade. My teacher had it in his in-classroom library and I was drawn to by the cover and that it was a hardcover that didn't weigh a ton! Lol. When I wanted to borrow it from again the next year, he told me he to had to try to find it, then a few days later I saw it on my desk in my other classroom with a note that said I could keep it! I still have the weather-beaten copy too!

Thanks for visiting my TTT!

I read almost all of these as a child, as well as the Little House series, which I loved. Thanks for the trip down memory lane :)

Happy TTT!

I love A Wrinkle in Time, but didn't read it as a kid. I think I would have adored it.

I actually read a lot of these as a kid! Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz were two of my favorites. I read them many times.

Oh Little House is one of my favorite series but like you I did not read that until I was older. Owl Moon is one of our favorites!

Great to see so many visitors today.

Jessica, what a nice keepsake you have. My Little House books are the ones from the 1970s that belonged to my sisters. I also have a special Lucy Maud Montgomery set and the first three books of the Anne of Green Gables series, which I received as a birthday present when I turned 11.

Susan, that's great you read many of the classics. I'm suck a slacker in that regard.

Alicia, isn't it funny what we opt to read for fear we won't enjoy it?

Aj, how neat that you have read some of these more than once. I used to do that with the Little House books and the Anne of Green Gables series.

Sassy Bookish Mama, I am so glad I wasn't the only one who didn't read the Little House series until I was older.

Lectrice, I'm off to check out your list now.

Thanks to everyone for stopping by.
