Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Bookish Resolutions/Goals

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Before I get into my Top Ten list for this week, I want to give a shout out to Jana and thank her for taking over Top Ten Tuesday. She's already got a ton of great topics listed and I'm excited.

Top Ten Bookish Resolutions/Goals

This topic is easy for me since a) I've already thought of some goals, and b) I'm a goals kind of gal.

  1. Top priority - whittle down the TBR pile. There are so many new books I don't order or download simply because I have a ton of unread books here.
  2. Complete my reading challenges. I kept it simple this year: I committed to 12 books. How can I not cross that mere dozen off my list?
  3. Get back to the First Chapter Review. I really loved this when I came up with it a few years ago. Read the first chapter, share the blurb and then my thoughts on the cover art, what the first chapter is about, and if I would keep reading.
  4. Read at least one business book a quarter. I'm so bad about this, but I really need to motivate myself forward to meet my real estate goals this year.
  5. Read at least one writing craft or writing business book a quarter. I've never been great about this. I have several good ones here and I need to read them. My fourth children's book is coming out and I want to finish the middle grade historical I started eons ago.
  6. Go through all my books to see if there are any I want to donate or use as giveaways. I often receive books unsolicited. I don't get rid of them right away in case I end up wanting to read them. At this point, I really need to focus on what I can't live without.
  7. Create a regular feature to promote the free books I've downloaded. I've got hundreds of them and it's not right to hide them on my device without sharing something about them.
  8. Discover two new to me authors this year. I tend to reach for authors I know I'll enjoy, but I would like to discover some new writers this year. Even better would be authors in genres I don't usually read.
  9. Read one book in a genre I don't read often: sci-fi, fantasy, horror, satire, graphic novel....
  10. Read more books than I read in 2017. While gone are the days when I could read hundreds of books, I definitely want to shoot for more than the 31 I read last year. If I could double it, I would be happy.
What are some of your bookish resolutions/goals?

Good luck with your goals! I really need to work on getting my TBR collection down as well. I didn't list it, but I probably should go through my shelves again and pull out the books I am no longer interested in reading--or don't want to re-read. I hope you have a great week! Thank you for sharing. :-)

Great list! The first chapter review sounds really cool. I bet it would be interesting to see how your final review might differ from your first impression! Thanks for stopping by my site, and happy reading!

Good luck with these goals! :-) It'll be interesting to see what you come up with for those free books.

Lofty list. Wow. My nephew, who is also in business, reads Marketing books and then meet with others over coffee to discuss them. Kind of a miniature book club. Good luck.

I really love these goals, you have given me a lot to think about! I am almost exclusively a non-fiction reader, perhaps I need to branch out into another genre. If only I did not have all those non-fiction books on my Kindle and bookshelves already. Oi!

Nice list! I need to work my way through books I already have as well. I think your First Chapter review sounds interesting. Here is our Top Ten Tuesday

Ah, whittling down the TBR - the job of a lifetime. Seriously. LOL

Good luck with that and with the other goals. And, yes, the clearing a few out and donating them to others for their reading pleasure is always satisfying.

I love that you want to try new genres. I love horror and am always glad to see more people reading it. I love the concept of first chapter reviews. Good luck!

Nice goals! I too want to cut down my TBR. It seems like I have more unread books than the actual read ones? It is seriously getting out of control :D

I hope you accomplish all of your goals this year :)

This week I have posted my top ten bookish pet peeves. My TTT: http://flippingthruthepages.com/2018/01/top-ten-bookish-pet-peeves/

I'm SO bad about completing reading challenges! I love to sign up for them, but I never manage to actually finish any of them. I'd like to finish at least ONE this year. Good luck to us both :)

Happy TTT!

These are great goals! I really need to read more of my own books and trim down that TBR! Congratulations on your 4th children's book! How exciting!

I absolutely love the idea of First Chapter Reviews. I've been trying to put down books that don't grab me but I keep forcing myself to read them anyway, and that would be a great way for me to justify giving up on a book that just wasn't my cup of tea.

You can check out my bookish resolutions here.

I'm intrigued by this 'first chapter review' thing! I'm trying to get to 25 books this year; I hope I make it...I'm expecting a baby in April, so we'll see how it goes! ;D

Gosh, look at all the visitors. Awesome!

I think all of us feel the need to thin the herd at one point or another.

Destiny, I'm sometimes surprised by how I feel at the end of a book when the first chapter didn't wow me. That's why I will usually continue for a few more chapters if I'm uncertain.

Chrissi, I'm really tossing the free Kindle idea around in my mind. I was thinking maybe like a first sentence thing, but I don't want to turn it into a weekly meme kind of thing.

Anne, I like that mini-book club idea.

Sarah, I used to read only non-fiction. It was blogging and writing that changed that. How could I write for publication if I didn't know what was selling in the marketplace?

Susan, book challenges are tough for me. That's why I only committed to 12 books. Unmet goals irritate me. Thanks J. Aislynn and Katherine for your congratulations on my new book. Just ordered printed copies today!

Alyce, that was part of why I started the First Chapter Review. My TBR pile was threatening to take over my office, and I needed a way to figure out if I wanted to keep all these books hanging around. The other reason is that as an author, I felt bad downloading these books and never talking about them on my blogs.

Roseanna, congratulations on being a mommy-to-be. How exciting. Is this your first baby? Things will change, but set aside some reading time...maybe right before nap time. :)

Thanks for visiting, everyone.
