Book Review: Special Delivery by Kathi Macias

Award-winning author Kathi Macias returns with another powerful installment in her "Freedom" series, Special Delivery.

In this moving continuation, readers find Mara now far removed from the life of a sex slave she once knew. Living on her own and gainfully employed, the young woman has at least some hope for her future. Jefe hasn't forgotten the betrayal of his niece, however, and hatches a plot to exact his revenge.

Bible student Jonathan Flannery can't seem to get Mara off his mind. Instrumental in helping her escape her former life, he has mixed feelings when he learns she is back in San Diego.

As Mara wonders if she should risk getting involved in helping rescue a girl who reminds her too much of her former self, another girl is being rescued in Thailand, with the hope that she will one day be reunited with her sister in America.

Wow! If you thought the first book in this series, Deliver Me from Evil, was good, then you definitely don't want to miss this one. Macias continues to shed light on the horrors of human trafficking with her readers, reminding them this is something that takes place closer to home than they might think.

Macias masterfully weaves a story that draws the reader deeper into the lives of the many characters they met in Deliver Me from Evil, while introducing new characters whose situations will also grab at your heart. While you definitely don't need to read the first book in the series to appreciate Special Delivery, I believe learning Mara's and Jonathan's stories from the beginning will add a great deal to the reading experience.

I eagerly anticipate the release of the final book in this series later this year. If you want to read a powerful story that will leave you thinking long after you've turned the last page, then pick up a copy of Special Delivery!
