Joining us today is Joel Andre, author of The Black Chronicles: Cry of the Fallen.
Between the years of 1999 and 2007, Joel was featured in various poetry anthologies and publications. In 2008 he released his first collection,Pray the Rain Never Ends. Since then he has released A Death at the North Pole, Kill 4 Me, The Pentacle of Light, The Return, and The Black Chronicles: Cry of the Fallen.
Welcome to The Book Connection, Joel. It's a pleasure to have you with us. Can you tell us where you grew up?
I grew up in Cottonwood, AZ where the book takes place. My family has been in the area for a long time. It is a remarkable area and anyone who wants to get a taste of Arizona and have a welcoming small town feeling should visit there.
When did you begin writing?
I have been writing since I was in my teens. Usually, I would ignore my instructors and focus on writing my stories instead. I think it helped me to fine tune my craft.
Do you write during the day, at night or whenever you can sneak a few moments?
I write all day, every day. When I am not working on my books, I work for Need an Article. They offer online content written by some top notch writers.
What is this book about?
In the most general of terms this book is about a demonic force that is plaguing a small town. It has elements of mystery, suspense and my one of kind dark humor. There is also plenty of social commentary involved, if you dissect the book.
What inspired you to write it?
The inspiration came to me as I was trying to bring back Lauren Bruni. She is a beloved character of mine and this just fell into place.
Are you a member of a critique group? If no, who provides feedback on your work?
I have a number of people who a book reaches before I release it. During that time, they tell me what works and what doesn't. I do not participate in critique groups since I am overly critical of my own work and wouldn't want to subject my critical nature on others.
Who is your favorite author?
I prefer to list three people here. Stephen King, Anne Rice and Edgar Allan Poe.
Do you have an agent or are you looking for one?
I am always willing to entertain the use of an agent. I however am not actively seeking one. However, if one comes along and wants to talk with me, I would be open to it.
Where can readers purchase a copy of your book?
The book is available through their favorite book store, Amazon and other online retailers.
Do you have a website and/or blog where readers can find out more?
http://www.joelmandre.info/
What is the best investment you have made in promoting your book?
I would say it has been working with the online touring companies.
What is up next for you?
I have a new book coming out in October 2011. From there, I do plan on continuing the Black Chronicles as well.
Thanks for spending time with us today, Joel. We wish you continued success.
