When Loves Ends and the Ice Cream Carton is Empty has the power to help you through the transition from being a couple to being a happy single person so that you will be in a better and stronger position when you're ready to start over.
Using Biblical principles and heart-felt advice, When Love Ends encourages you to take the time to grieve your old relationship, then slowly bring yourself through the darker days, so that when "Day" comes you'll attend to those areas of your life you've neglected and learn how to make healthier relationship choices in the future.
The first thing I must say about When Love Ends is that I felt I didn't really need to read a book on breakups at this point in my life because I've been happily married for ten years.
But I was wrong.
Even though this book is geared toward a person who has experienced a breakup, much of the advice I found inside could apply to people from all walks of life: don't be held captive by your past, let go of blame, choose to forgive, and wait on God and trust in His timing.
Johnson shares her experiences with the reader, so they have a connection with her; they know she understands their pain. What I found refreshing is that she acknowledges how you can't fill up your heart with what another person "thinks, says, or does when it is meant to be filled by God." This is such an important and difficult lesson to learn; almost as difficult as learning to wait on God.
When Love Ends and the Ice Cream Carton is Empty by Jackie M. Johnson is one of the most inspiring books I've read. With Biblical quotes, prayers, and discussion questions, you'll not just hope, you'll know that your best days are ahead.
