Just when you think Charlotte Hubbard can't outdo her last book, she does! New Beginnings at Promise Lodge is a must read for lovers of Amish fiction and clean romance.
Widowed after twenty years of marriage, Frances Lehman is just tasting a bit of freedom. She's certainly not going to be pressured by her brother-in-law into a marriage she doesn't want despite having no idea how she and her daughter will support themselves. Her new friendship with Preacher Marlin Kurtz might have something to do with that, too.
When Frances suffers a horrible injury, she is determined to prove to everyone she can recover and remain independent. Marlin can't help but be concerned about what this means for their budding romance. He hopes the community of Promise Lodge can help restore Frances's joy and faith that this second chance will mean a blessed and abiding future together.
I loved this story from the start. Hubbard truly puts her characters to the test. Poor Frances is pestered by her widowed brother-in-law to see common sense and get married. Her daughter, Gloria, is bitter over not having a special someone in her life and creates challenges for Frances and another young couple. Marlin gets a tiny glimpse of a second chance at love before it is yanked away once Frances is injured. New Beginnings at Promise Lodge is one of those stories where only faith and friendship could see these people through.
While you certainly don't need to read any of the other novels set in Promise Lodge to enjoy this one, I think you'll want to follow these characters right from the beginning.

Every story will touch your heart. Every story will make you want to learn more about the people who make up this progressive Amish community where friendship, love, and faith abide. I can't wait for the latest Promise Lodge story to arrive. I can't imagine it will be better than the last, but Hubbard's talent seems to know no bounds. If you like Amish fiction, clean romance, or inspirational stories of any kind, pick up New Beginnings at Promise Lodge or one of the other great books in the series.

Book Review: Christmas from the Heart by Sheila Roberts
If you like funny seasonal romances, Christmas from the Heart will fit the bill.
Olivia Berg has taken the helm at Christmas from the Heart, a local charity helping families in need in the town of Pine River, Washington. When they lose one of their major donors, Hightower Enterprises, she begs CFO Guy Hightower to reconsider. She is promptly shot down, and Hightower has made it clear there will be no more money coming for Christmas from the Heart.
Guy Hightower knows Hightower Enterprises needs to tighten its belt, but pushy Olivia Berg could never understand such a thing. When Guy's car breaks down at the edge of the Cascade foothills, he's thrilled to be rescued by a pretty young woman who brings him to Pine River. Until he realizes his rescuer is Olivia Berg. Just his luck to be stuck with the woman who thinks he's Ebenezer Scrooge.
I've enjoyed the writing of Sheila Roberts since On Strike for Christmas first came out. She blends humor and drama and always comes up with a winner. Christmas from the Heart is another fabulous story I enjoyed from beginning to end. There's the drama: Olivia feeling a huge responsibility to carry on the work of her grandmother and mother before her and Guy Hightower needing to find a way to keep Hightower Enterprises afloat in precarious times. Then there's the humor: the ridiculous emails Olivia sends off to Guy, their first in person meeting, the antics of a small town Christmas with two people who are both attracted to and despise each other.
Christmas from the Heart is another wonderful seasonal story that proves Roberts knows how to weave an engaging and light tale that entertains fans new and old. I can't wait to see what she comes out with next.

Praise for For the Love of Laura Beth
Warmth, compassion, heartache, faithfulness and more are emotions you will experience as you read this. I was completely immersed in this Korean War era tale, the historical details making the story come alive.
Aubrey Wynne did an awesome job with this Historical book. Thank you Aubrey Wynne for a very beautifully written story!!
An emotional read about the life, fears, and love during the Korean War! Aubrey Wynne begins each chapter with a thought-provoking quote. As a Midwesterner, who often visited Chicago in the 1950s, this romance includes well-researched historical details about Chicago, the era, and journalism. Aubrey Wynne blends history with a nicely paced full of family dynamics love story.
EXCERPT
Excerpt 1:
“Men always want to be woman’s first love – women like to be a man’s last romance.”
Oscar Wilde
Chapter One
Late April 1949
Kankakee, south of Chicago
It was the kind of first kiss all girls dreamed of, hoped for, and rarely received. The kind of first kiss a girl saw in the movies or read in romance novels. The kind of first kiss a girl only whispered about because the moment was too precious to share.
A moment Laura Beth Walters had waited over ten years for. She sighed and leaned her cheek into the hand that still cupped her face, afraid to open her eyes.
Joe put his forehead against hers. “So this is love.”
Her lips still tingled from his touch. Her heart clamored against her chest. She wondered briefly if life would ever be this sweet again. Yes, this was love.
She’d known it since first grade, but Mom said boys were a bit slower in the cleverness department. She peeked through her lashes and looked into his deep chocolate eyes. His lids were half closed, and a sated smile played on his lips, as if he’d just tasted something heavenly. Me, she thought wickedly. The moon threw shadows across his strong jaw and square chin. He was the most handsome boy in Kankakee. No, in the state of Illinois. No, in the entire Midwest.
“Yes, Mr. McCall, I do believe it’s love.” She ran her fingertips down his cheek, the coarse, dark stubble bristly on her skin. Warmth spiraled through her with the intimate gesture. “What do you think?”
“I think I understand why my mom smiled at me, and my pa thumped me on the shoulder when I left tonight.” Joe moved his hands around her waist, pulling her close. “So your parents will let you go to the prom with a senior?”
Laura shrugged, trying for poise but failing miserably when the grin would not leave her face. Daddy had been reluctant to let her date. Her mother had come to the rescue, convincing him that sixteen was old enough to date a boy they trusted. The McCalls lived down the street and owned the local mechanic shop. Joe was a hardworking, polite boy. Their families attended neighborhood barbecues, community, and school functions together.
“I’m practically a senior.”
“And Roger Willard will be practically comatose if he ever buys you another soda. I saw him giving you the eye last week.” He leaned closer and whispered in her ear. “I don’t know how I missed you graduating from the Bobbysox Brigade and becoming such a dish, but I’m crazy about you now.”
Their first date had come about by accident. She had been at the drug store, having a malt with a group of friends early last March. Tuesdays and Saturdays were her favorite days because Joe worked then. He looked so handsome in his white hat and jacket—like a sailor or a doctor.
Laura had ordered a strawberry malt and was waiting for Joe to make it. He’d rubbed her head, still treating her like a child. “Give me a minute, kid.”
“I’ll buy that,” Roger said to Joe as he slid onto the stool next to her.
Joe had nodded and glanced over his shoulder, a puzzled expression on his face as he took in the other boy. “Nah, I got it for her.”
“I said I’ll buy Laura Beth the malt,” Roger had repeated through clenched teeth.
Joe, a scowl on his face, had set the malt on the counter with a thud that made the other girls giggle. “Fine. Like I care who buys it for her.”
But Joe had rubbernecked from across the counter while the teenager tipped his head close to Laura’s and made her laugh. He studied Roger, then his sweet childhood friend, and then frowned at the boy as if something was definitely off. She knew the second it hit him, recognized the shock on his face.
“You’re sweet on her. Sweet on my little Laura Beth.” He shook his head and then looked at her again, as if for the first time.
“I’m done here in half an hour. Wait for me,” Joe had said, with a glower at Roger.
“Sure, Joey, I’ll wait,” she replied in her sweetest voice, and then continued to talk Roger.

Interview with Charlene Whitman, Author of Wyoming Tryst
The author of “heart-thumping” Western romance, Charlene Whitman spent many years living on Colorado’s Front Range. She grew up riding and raising horses, and loves to read, write, and hike the mountains. She attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins as an English major. She has two daughters and is married to George “Dix” Whitman, her love of thirty years.
The Front Range series of sweet historical Western romance novels (set in the 1870s) includes Wild Horses, Wild Hearts, set in Laporte and Greeley. Colorado Promise, set in Greeley, Colorado; Colorado Hope, set in Fort Collins; Wild Secret, Wild Longing, which takes readers up into the Rockies, Colorado Dream (Greeley), and Wyoming Tryst, set in Laramie, WY.
WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I grew up in California but lived in Colorado for some time. I rode horses since I was little and always loved Westerns, playing cowboys with my brothers. My fondest memories are the ones at my summer camp in the mountains, where I rode horses through pastures and across rivers and sensed what it must have been like to live in the old West, in a simpler time and place, without the fast pace of life we experience now.
When did you begin writing?
I’ve been writing ever since I can remember. I wrote poems, short stories, and prose from childhood. I didn’t consider writing novels into well into adulthood though.
Do you write during the day, at night or whenever you can sneak a few moments?
I usually write a few months out of the year, and when I sit down to write a novel, I’ll do that nearly full-time for a few months until the book is done.
What is this book about?
Wyoming Tryst is a close parallel story to Romeo and Juliet, opening with the same scene ideas and following the plot closely, though set in 1878 in Laramie, WY, between two feuding ranching families. However, my characters get into all kinds of Western scrapes, including running afoul with the law and the heroine being tossed into the state penitentiary. And don’t worry—it has a happy ending, though the climax is almost identical to the tragic moments in the Bard’s play.
What inspired you to write it?
I’m a big Shakespeare fan (who wouldn’t be?), and I loved the challenge of adapting his play into a Western story. Plus, I saw a “cowboy” version of Comedy of Errors at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival that was so hilarious, I just had to do my own version of Shakespeare in the Old West.
Who is your favorite author?
I have a lot of favorites, but for Westerns, no one matches Zane Grey. I feel my writing and love of setting are similar to his, and Riders of the Purple Sage is one of my favorite novels, even though written nearly a century ago.
Was the road to publication smooth sailing or a bumpy ride?
I self-publish my Front Range series, so it’s been fairly easy publishing.
If you knew then what you know now, is there anything you would have done differently?
I would have started writing novels a long time ago, and I would have first studied novel structure.
Where can readers purchase a copy of your book?
All my books are available on Amazon exclusively (Kindle), and all the full-length novels are also available in print/paperback.
What is one piece of advice you would like to share with aspiring authors everywhere?
Take the time to study novel craft, attend workshops, study best sellers in your genre. Don’t get too far in the writing without getting a writing coach or an editor to help you. Critique groups are often counterproductive because they are usually made up of people who don’t have expertise in novel writing and/or publishing. Always get your work edited and proofread before submitting or publishing.
What is up next for you?
No doubt there will be a book 7 in The Front Range series, again set in Laramie.
Is there anything you would like to add?
While my novels can be read in any order, it’s best to start at the beginning, with the prequel novella, Wild Horses, Wild Hearts. If you sign up for my mailing list, you will get that book for free! From there, I hope you’ll be hooked and immerse yourself into the world I’ve created in the 1870s. I do a lot of research and try to make my stories as authentic as possible. They are sweet romance (no sex), and have complex characters and deep themes. Enjoy!

Kindle Bargain: My Sister's Intended by Rachael Anderson
For as long as Prudence can remember, it has been understood that her sister will one day wed the eldest son of their nearest neighbor. Such an alliance will benefit both families and bring a great deal of joy to all parents involved.
Unfortunately, Prudence has never been able to feel as joyful. She believes her sister is mad to consider marrying a man she hardly knows, even if he will one day make her a countess. Titles and wealth shouldn't factor into matters of the heart, and as an aspiring romance novelist, Prudence cannot fathom how anyone could even think of settling for less than love. She certainly wouldn’t, and she doesn't want her sister to either.
Unable to stand by and do nothing, Prudence sets out to help the awkward couple discover the best in each other with the hope that they will eventually find love. What she neglected to foresee, however, was the possibility that she might fall in love with Lord Knave herself.

Day 12 - 12 Days of Clean Romances - Cami Checketts
How to Kiss a Billionaire by Cami Checketts
Sassy meets swoon-worthy in this fast-paced contemporary romance.
Miriam Salisbury escapes to Oregon to avoid a boyfriend who won't take no for an answer, killing her beloved cat to prove it. When her father sends Clay Browning to protect her, she's certain he's lost his mind. As far as she's concerned Clay's experience is limited to posing for the camera, charming women, and making fun of her. He's been teasing her since they were children and she's never gotten over the way he threw crawdads at her at church picnics.
Clay retired from the military and entered the world of private security. When he gets the call to protect Miriam he's excited to be around his lifelong crush. As expected, he teases her nonstop and the only thing he takes seriously is her security. He knows she'd never give him a chance and he can't help but give her a hard time.
After Miriam is dumped in the freezing ocean on a crabbing expedition and Clay saves her from drowning and freezing to death, she takes a second look at her hired gun. But opening up to him is more terrifying than facing her stalker.
As events escalate to a frenzied climax, Miriam and Clay must put aside past grudges in the hope of finding a lasting love for their future.

"I LOVE these sweet romances! I love that each of them is a mini escape. You almost feel as though you've traveled to a warm destination even though it's cold and snowy where you live. I love that I can pass them to either my daughter or my grandma and never have any concern about the content. And the characters in these are amazing! I love them all!” Cathy Jeppsen, Book Reviewer, My Book a Day

Miriam closed her eyes as Clay’s arms came around her and held her tight.
“Whoa, darling, if I would’ve known I’d get this reception, I would’ve broken into your house years ago.”
Miriam pushed away from him, stumbling from the realization that he hadn’t changed. Clay was a vicious flirt and never took anything seriously. She shoved at his chest, but he didn’t budge. He was real and he was here, and unfortunately for her unsteady nerves, it didn’t look like he was going away. “What are you doing here?” she demanded.
“Your daddy hired me.”
“My daddy … hired you?” She glared at him. “For what? A pinup model?”
He smiled and tilted his head to the side. “I know I look good, but I actually have a few skills in protection too.”
“You do not. All you’ve ever been good at is spending your billions of dollars and getting women to simper at your feet.” She knew he’d been in the military for four years after high school, but after that, he appeared to be the ultimate player. At least, it looked that way in the online photos she’d seen, when she’d googled him. Okay, it was pathetic that she’d googled him, but he was Clay Browning, a.k.a. Miriam’s dream man.
He spread his arms, and she couldn’t help but notice the definition from his forearms and biceps up through his shoulders and chest. Maybe he should find a shirt that wasn’t so … form-fitting. “Hey, I’ve got lots of talents. What can I say?”
Miriam pushed out a huffy breath. “You are not here. This is all some kind of crazy fantasy.”
“I know I’m the stuff fantasies are made of, but I really am here.” He sauntered a step closer, and that spicy cologne made her stomach heat up. “You want to enact some of those fantasies you’ve been having about me?”
She put a hand on his chest to keep him from coming any closer. Those muscles were real. Yikes. She dropped her hand and stepped back. “For one second, just for one, be serious. Why are you here, and how did you get in my house?”
Clay rolled his eyes and folded his arms across his chest. Sheesh. What did he do with biceps that defined? Wrestle bulls?
Focus, Miriam!
“Your daddy called me, said Greg was threatening and stalking you and I had to find you. So I found you, and now I’m here to watch over you.”
Watch over you? She would not survive with this man in the same town, let alone the same house. Her throat was dry and all those daydreams she used to have about him rotated through her mind.
“How did you get in?” she demanded.
“I told you: I have skills.” He smiled and finally admitted, “I was special ops in the Army and I’ve worked in private security since then.”
“You’re being serious now? This isn’t some bull crap line that Clay Browning is giving me?”
He smirked. “You can believe whatever you want, sweetheart.” He took a step closer, and her legs betrayed her by not backing up. “But do believe that I’m here and you I and are going to get real cozy.”
Miriam looked over his gorgeous face. She clenched her trembling hands together and swallowed hard. “I’m not one of your flavors of the week, Clay.”
He leaned in and sniffed her. “Ah. Yeah, I think you are. Vanilla with a hint of chocolate. My favorite flavor this week.”

Praise for the book:
"For getting me in the mood for Christmas, and the romantic aspect of this holiday even before Thanksgiving, I’m happy to give Ms. McConnell the 5 STARS I’ve given her book."
"Marrying Miss Kringle: Lux is a funny, tender, magical adventure into the sparkles of Christmas Magic and the sparks of human love."

Lux’s cheeks dusted pink. With her red hair and fair skin, she should have flushed bright red, but only this sprinkling of pink appeared, like she’d been dusted with pink powdered sugar. Why did this woman bring to mind sweet things like powdered sugar and chocolate and kisses at sunset? He gave his head a mighty shake.
“You fell in the water.”
“I know.” At least, he thought he knew. Everything had happened so fast. He’d fallen asleep and woken up when the ice cracked. He plopped his feet to the floor only to have them land in several inches of water. His stove had tipped over and the hot metal had melted clear through the ice. There must have been a crack in the ice nearby.
“We pulled you out.”
“We?” Quik adjusted the blankets over his arms. He could only imagine Lux and Ginger and Frost tearing his clothes off. Lux made to adjust her glasses, but they weren’t there. She looked around like they’d fallen off and she didn’t know how. So he wasn’t the only one thrown off by all this. Quik’s eyes traveled lower to find her bare shoulders and her skintight tank top. He jerked his eyes back up to her face, hoping she hadn’t caught his wandering eye.
“Me and Dunder.” She chewed her lip. “My reindeer.” “Of course.”
The situation was going up in weirdness. Having used up all his ability to care about propriety, Quik leaned back against the seat. He was in the bottom of a fancy velvet-lined sled. Yep. Weird. His eyes dropped shut.
“You cut my pants?” he asked.
“I’ll get you new ones,” offered Lux.
“Did you cut my shirt too?”
“No!” She was offended. That was kind of cute.
“Too bad. I needed a new shirt.” He half smiled.

If she's not at the computer, you can find her trying to keep up with her husband and four kids on the ski slopes, in a boat, in the kitchen, or on a horse.
