Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: One Sci-Fi Item or Ability I Wish Really Existed

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. They offer this blog hop as a weekly prompt to help you gain new friends and visitors. You don't have to participate every week, but if you decide to post and join the blog hop for a week, Long and Short Reviews requests that you share your link in their weekly post on their website (which will be the top post on the home page each Wednesday morning). The link list remains open for new links for 48 hours. Visit the other bloggers participating to see what they discuss that week. Comments are appreciated.

Here we are at Wednesday again. Many school kids in our area are back in the classroom. The weather continues to cool down seasonally. And I am ready for a slower schedule--not that it is coming--and for the leaves to change.

The prompt for this week's Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge asks us to share a sci-fi item or ability I wish really existed. While sci-fi is totally out of my league, I guess I would say traveling back in time. I've always been fascinated by shows like Quantum Leap and Voyager, whose premise involves traveling to the past. For me, it would be a neat way to see loved ones again.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Foods From Massachusetts That I Don't Like

Hey, it's Wednesday! This post means I have blogged for three days in a row this week. That's a win. Today's prompt for the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is "Foods from my geographic area that I don't like."

I consider myself a diverse eater, probably because I enjoy cooking and baking. I will try just about anything once. Two things I definitely don't like are oysters and steamed clams. I like fried clams, but they are too slimy otherwise. Though coffee is not what Massachusetts is known for, Dunkin' Donuts started in Quincy, Massachusetts. I don't drink coffee at all. Yuck!

That's it for me today. Looking forward to reading your posts.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Reasons I've Stopped Reading or Watching a Series

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. They offer this blog hop as a weekly prompt to help you gain new friends and visitors. Happy Wednesday! It is time for the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge. This week's prompt is: Reasons I've Stopped Reading or Watching a Series.

In my world, it usually has to do with time. At this point, if I get to read five pages a week, I consider that a success. Other reasons include:

  • I've read one book in an existing series and have no hope of catching up
  • Don't enjoy the characters of a new series enough to continue
  • My genre preferences changed
  • What is happening to the recurring characters no longer interests me
How about you? Why do you stop reading or watching a series?

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Books I Wish I'd Discovered Sooner

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. They offer this blog hop as a weekly prompt to help you gain new friends and visitors. You don't have to participate every week, but if you decide to post and join the blog hop for a week, Long and Short Reviews requests that you share your link in their weekly post on their website (which will be the top post on the home page each Wednesday morning). Today is Wednesday, which means it is time for the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge. I may not have replied to any of your comments from last week yet. So sorry if that is the case. Real estate is keeping me up late at night and getting up early in the morning. Send some good wishes and prayers my way that things slow down to a manageable level.

This week's prompt asks us to share Books I Wish I'd Discovered Sooner. Here are a few:

Harry Potter - I've discussed this before. I don't read highly popular books and series. I am not a follower. The final movie had been out for four years before I stopped by the library to grab the first book in this series. Then I listened to them in quick succession in my car as I drove around to appointments.

Murder, She Wrote - I loved the show, but I never indulged in a book until Jon Land, one of my favorite authors, took over after Donald Bain passed away. Land wrote six Murder, She Wrote books. I read his last two.

Cedar Cove - This is a series I knew about, but I find it disheartening to start a new-to-me series when so many books have been written. It was the Hallmark Channel television series that got me into reading these books. I've only read the first three books and one of the Christmas novels.

I would be remiss if I didn't add Amish novels by Charlotte Hubbard. I first read Charlotte's work in 2012, when she also wrote Amish novels under the pen name Naomi King. As far as I know, I didn't miss any of her novels from that point on until her retirement. I still miss her work.

That's it for me. I will try my best to visit your blogs by the end of the week. Appreciate your visits and comments.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Would You Go Skydiving? Why or Why Not?

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. They offer this blog hop as a weekly prompt to help you gain new friends and visitors. You don't have to participate every week, but if you decide to post and join the blog hop for a week, Long and Short Reviews requests that you share your link in their weekly post on their website (which will be the top post on the home page each Wednesday morning). The link list remains open for new links for 48 hours. Visit the other bloggers participating to see what they discuss that week. Comments are appreciated.

We are saying hello to Wednesday again, and that means it is time for the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge. This is such a fun meme because it is short, sweet, and manageable most weeks. Gosh, real estate is kicking my butt.

This week's prompt asks, Would You Go Skydiving? Why or Why Not?

The answer to that is an emphatic no. You all know that I have this goal to live to 110, right? Well, if not, you know now. While I am not risk-averse, I don't believe in going out of my way to do things that could interfere with that goal, injure me in any major way, or lead to my untimely death. It's bad enough I drive most days for my job. I am convinced drivers in Massachusetts and Connecticut are either insane, distracted, high, or entitled. None of which is good. So, I will avoid things like skydiving that will just increase the odds that I die too young, while totally admiring people who are willing to attempt it.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Stores or Other Physical Places I Wish Still Existed

Happy Wednesday! Hope you are having a great week. Today's Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is taking us on a trip down memory lane. We are talking about stores or other physical places we wish still existed.

Considering that so many stores of my childhood are just distant memories these days, that could be a long list (problem with being over half a century old).

When I was a kid, we had a local mall in our city called Fairfield Mall. Its anchor stores were Two Guys (closed 1982) and Caldor (closed 1999). After Two Guys closed, Bradlees moved in. They closed all their stores by 2001. Fairfield Mall closed soon afterwards. I have so many memories there:

  • Taking the Pepsi Challenge in the food court. Still a Pepsi girl.
  • Sitting at the Koffee Kup counter having tea and a donut with my uncle, who always ordered a coffee and a cruller
  • Playing video games and pinball at the Just Fan arcade.
  • Getting soft serve at the in-mall restaurant.
  • Going each week to choose the Top 40 singles I didn't own from Caldor.
More stores from my childhood that are no longer around: Woolworths (closed 1997), where I ate a lot of fries at the lunch counter; Waldenbooks (closed 2011), where I shopped for new titles; Child World (closed 1992), where we loved to browse with my mother, and PaySaver (late 90s), which was a local discount retailer.

One place that no longer exists from my childhood is the field of wildflowers next to my childhood home. The housing authority built a 62+ independent living facility in 1976 as part of an urban renewal project. We lived in that house until 1980, when my parents sold it because my mother had cancer and could no longer help my father manage it. We moved into a single-family home in another area of the city, but I had relatives who lived in the housing authority's building, so I often got to visit our old apartment building.

What are some stores and physical places you wish were still around? Hope you enjoy your trip down memory lane as much as I did.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Have You Ever Attended Your High School Reunion? Why?

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. They offer this blog hop as a weekly prompt to help you gain new friends and visitors. You don't have to participate every week, but if you decide to post and join the blog hop for a week, Long and Short Reviews requests that you share your link in their weekly post on their website (which will be the top post on the home page each Wednesday morning). The link list remains open for new links for 48 hours. Visit the other bloggers participating to see what they discuss that week. Comments are appreciated.

Happy Wednesday from the overly tired, rather cranky real estate agent. I will be on the road early this morning, but will likely check in with you later as we talk about an interesting subject this week: Have you ever attended your high school reunion? Why?

Like some of you, high school was a time of terrible bullying and loneliness for me. Actually, I was made fun of from the day I entered first grade until the day I graduated high school, so one might think I don't attend these events.

Lo and behold, one of the least popular kids ever to walk the face of the planet coordinated our very first high school reunion ten years after we graduated. All by myself, I might add, because again, I was unpopular. Also because our class officers were no longer local, and someone asked me to. I gladly turned the reins over to the popular kids, who have coordinated all the others.

This summer, our class will gather for our 40th high school reunion at a classmate’s home. We’re still deciding whether we’ll go (the husband and I graduated together), but here’s what I’ve realized: life has a remarkable way of leveling the playing field. Somewhere along the way, it stops mattering who was popular or invisible, who fit in or who didn’t. Adulthood redistributes confidence, success, and happiness in ways childhood never could. In some ways, I am still that shy, unsure kid. In others, I have outgrown the desire to feel anything less than equal to my former classmates. I no longer feel the pain of their past judgment. I don't allow my worth to be defined by anyone but me.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Something to Know Before Visiting My Country/City

Happy Wednesday! Hope you are having a great week. I am feeling very accomplished since I blogged all three days this week. Though my mornings have been full, I find sitting down after supper gives me time to check in with my fellow bloggers.

This week's Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge asks us to share something to know before visiting my country/city. In our case, it's a town.

There are so many neat things to know if you are planning a trip to Wilbraham. Here are my top three:

  1. We have great local coffee shops/breakfast places. In addition to the two well-known chains, we have several others scattered throughout our town, so no matter where you live here, you will find a wonderful place to stop and pick up coffee/tea/soda/juice and enjoy a variety of foods.
  2. We have several working farms. Not only are these farms a great place to pick up flowers, herbs, and produce, but some host live events.
  3. Looking for an amazing private school for students in grades 6 - 12? Then you need to consider Wilbraham & Monson Academy. Founded in 1804, the student body represents more than 30 countries. The Lil' Princess attended school there for grades 9 - 12. Best decision we made.

I look forward to learning more about your countries and cities/towns.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Animals I Wish I Could Have as Pets

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. They offer this blog hop as a weekly prompt to help you gain new friends and visitors. It's Wednesday. Do you know where the local real estate agent is? Not spending time with all my blogging friends. She might have forgotten today was her 26th wedding anniversary and scheduled herself to be gone for most of the day and well into the evening. To be fair, I used to be young with a better memory.

This week's prompt for the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is: Animals I Wish I Could Have as Pets.

Does it make me a bad person if I say none? I love animals, but I have been taking care of animals and people since I was 18. That is 40 years of taking care of everyone and everything else while trying to carve out some time for little ole me. I have already threatened my daughters with being disinherited if they buy me another furry, non-furry, shelled, gilled, or feathered thing after the three pets we have cross over the rainbow bridge. Give me a year of nothing to feed, walk, or clean up after, and I will likely be ready to welcome another pet into the house. When that time comes, maybe it will be another cat or possibly a chinchilla.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: A Typical Day in My Life

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. They offer this blog hop as a weekly prompt to help you gain new friends and visitors. Happy hump day! In the words of the B-52s:

Wearing next to nothing

'Cause it's as hot as an oven

It's another day of blistering heat in the Northeast. Might have a thunderstorm today, and the weekend looks rainy.  At least if it rains, I won't have to water the garden.

Do I dare share a typical day in my life? It's really boring. Talking about paint drying could be more entertaining.

  • The alarm rings at 6:00 am.
  • Prayer time and sharing Instagram content to my stories.
  • Out of bed by 7:00 am.
  • Shower, get dressed, dry my hair (while doing some squats). If it's a workday, put on some makeup so I don't frighten the world.
  • Feed animals and let the dog out.
  • Small breakfast at the house or on the road.
  • Desk work, phone calls, social media marketing, or appointments until sometime between 4:00 and 6:00 pm.
  • In between the above, make sure the dog gets walked around 11:00 am, and that I have something that looks like lunch between 12:00 and 1:00 pm (often at my desk or in the car).
  • Feed animals.
  • Start laundry while making supper.
  • Eat with the other half or with the other half and our daughter (sometimes son-in-love).
  • Do dishes and clean the kitchen.
  • Fold clean clothes.
  • Take a snack upstairs to my office to blog and finish paperwork.
  • Social media time.
  • Prepare for tomorrow.
  • Say goodnight and I love you to my kids.
  • Bed sometime between 11:00 pm and 2:00 am, depending upon how much real estate work there is.

Now, about that paint drying...

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Something I Wish I Knew More About

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. They offer this blog hop as a weekly prompt to help you gain new friends and visitors. Happy Wednesday! Hope you're having a great week. I have a closing today and a new listing coming, while  I'm also coordinating the Lil' Princess' move back to the Northeast. This makes me deliriously happy. I am blessed.

For this week's Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge, we are sharing something we wish we knew more about. Wow! That list is endless for me. As an eager learner, I am open to learning new things. In the short term, I wish I knew more about gardening. Not that I couldn't learn about gardening. It's just that it takes time, and time is in short supply around here.

Real estate has truly exploded this year. We expected it, but it's always a blessing when people seek you out. Right now, the level at which I am working doesn't leave room for many leisure pursuits. I can barely dedicate time to reading, and my writing is collecting virtual dust. All is good, though. It will make that retirement date I set that much sweeter.

How about you? What's something you wish you knew more about?

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: A Celebrity I'd Like to Meet

Wednesday has come around again. Hope this week is treating you well. Today's Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge prompt is: a celebrity I'd like to meet.

This is such a hard prompt, you know I can't narrow it down to just one. If we are talking about celebrities from my era, I think Michael J. Fox and Brooke Shields would be amazing to meet. I would also say that being part of Modern Prairie has given me a new appreciation for Melissa Gilbert. It would be nice to meet her in person.

Though I am not a country music fan, I imagine that meeting Dolly Parton would be life-changing. And since we are talking music, I should add meeting Taylor Swift to the list. My daughters are huge fans.

Have you met any celebrities?

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: A Few Happy Memories from My Life

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. They offer this blog hop as a weekly prompt to help you gain new friends and visitors. Say hello to Wednesday again. It creeps up so quickly. In this week's post, we are sharing a few happy memories from our lives. There are many I could share, but here are three that are in the top five highlights:

  • Marrying my best friend. There is no one I would rather go through this crazy life with than my husband. We have known each other since high school, and began dating when we were 21. Yeah, it's been a few years. :)  He is the kindest, most loving person I know.
  • Seeing my children through to adulthood. Each experience was different. I was barely out of high school when I had my son. The two girls came along after I was married. I've been a single parent, a working parent, a stay-at-home mom, a work-from-home mom, a pet mom, and probably a few other things during the last 39 years. With the youngest on the cusp of graduating, I am a mom in transition. It is all good and such a blessing.
  • Signing my first book contract. There is something special about that first contract. It's like proof that what you've been doing for likely years, maybe decades, is worth sharing with the world. Admittedly, I never get tired of signing them. I've been blessed to do that five times so far. Maybe next time I will be signing a contract for agent representation. We will see what the future holds.
What are some happy memories from your life?

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: My Unusual Hobbies/Interests

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. They offer this blog hop as a weekly prompt to help you gain new friends and visitors. Happy Wednesday! How is your week going? Mine is crazy, but it is all good real estate stuff, and getting ready to head to North Carolina next week to see our girl.

I am really stumped by this week's prompt. Yes, I am an odd bird, but I don't think I have any unusual hobbies or interests. I am just too boring for that.

Here are some things I would do if money were no consideration:

  • Buy historical homes and restore them, then rent them out as Airbnbs or sell them.
  • Help an acquaintance create a toy museum in town.
  • Open an independent bookstore in town. We used to have one, but it went out of business years ago.
  • Would like something else to go with that bookstore. I was thinking of vinyls or maybe even a fro-yo shop. We already have enough coffee shops in town.
  • I want to start a small indie publishing house.
I am sure there are other things I would do if the budget were limitless. How about you?

Happy Wednesday! Well, after a day that involved a dusting of snow followed by sunshine and warmth, then rain, big snowflakes, and finally cold wind, today should be sunny and warmer.

April 7, 2026

It looks like today's Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge allows me to talk about my favorite subject: me! Okay, that was a joke. As an empath, though, I do feel a lot of stuff and talk about a lot of stuff.

This will shock anyone who has only known me as an adult: I was a shy, anxious, and quiet kid. I'm still anxious and shy, especially in new settings or with people I don't know well, but quiet left a long time ago, and it is not likely to ever return.

Born the last of three girls, my middle sister is four years older, and our oldest sister is seven years older than I am. I'm the only sister to have lived her entire life in Massachusetts, and I am the only Gen Xer. Both my sisters are Baby Boomers.

With the difference in our ages, I got to spend a lot of time alone and had to learn to entertain myself. The good thing is that I developed a great imagination and a love of reading.

Mom and I

We had a huge family because my mother was one of eight or more, and my father was one of five. We had family that lived in Massachusetts, and relatives that lived in Quebec and Montreal, Canada. My mother and father were the youngest of their siblings, so all our aunts and uncles were much older than they were. Our cousins were teenagers or married when I was still in single digits. Not sure why, maybe because we lived in the same house as our Meme and Pepe, but we hosted the holidays at our house.

Oldest sister, one of our maternal uncles, middle sister, and I

All three of us danced. My oldest sister liked tap, the middle one acrobats and jazz, and I liked ballet. None of us liked the same things, and we weren't really alike in temperament. We were known as the oldest, the prettiest (middle sister), and the smart one (me).

Middle sister and I (the only year I took tap)

Because I was so small and bashful, I didn't make friends easily. I kept to myself, and teachers allowed me to help out because I could read at a third-grade level when I entered first grade. Being a teacher's pet did not ingratiate me with my classmates. I was teased pretty much from the day I entered school to the day I graduated high school. Time and life have leveled the playing field, but I will always feel like the kid who didn't fit in anywhere.

I lost my mother when I was 14, and my dad would eventually remarry. This would bring two brothers into my life. I looked after the oldest of the two boys since I still lived at home. The youngest was born after I moved out.

Many days, I still feel more like that doe-eyed little one in my mother's arms than a career woman who has built a successful business from the ground up. I am, however, grateful that I have been blessed to do what I do, and I feel those difficult, lonely days of my childhood prepared me to approach my real estate business with kindness and empathy for others.

We are driving to Maine today, but I will definitely visit your blogs to learn more about you.

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Favorite Book Blogs and/or Book Bloggers

Happy hump day! The week is flying by. Maybe I can work from home tomorrow, but this will be a day of going to and from places.

When I glanced upon this week's Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge prompt, all I could think was: Why not ask us to pick our favorite child? Those of us who have had or have been around children know how well that would turn out. So, I simply can't do it. I love you all for a multitude of reasons. I love connecting with my blogging friends because:

  • They have interesting things to say.
  • They often have a different perspective than I do.
  • They make me laugh and smile.
  • They share of themselves and their lives, which is a blessing I don't take for granted.
  • They make me feel less introverted.
  • They help me feel like I matter.
  • They inspire me to continue blogging.
  • Seeing their comments reminds me there is something special about carrying on a conversation with someone you might never meet in person, but who you feel you still know.
Thanks to all of you, especially those who engage with this blog--and me--regularly. It means the world to me!

Realizing this post is also a way to increase readership for bloggers, here are some I frequent regularly:

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: A Genre I Want to Read More of This Year

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. They offer this blog hop as a weekly prompt to help you gain new friends and visitors. Seems like Wednesdays always creep up on me. I guess it doesn't mean much for me since I often work weekends.

Today's Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is all about genres we want to read more of this year. Now, in the past, I would set myself a goal of reading more in a genre I don't typically read: sci-fi, fantasy, dystopian, and steampunk. This year, I tossed that out the window. It didn't even make the bookish promises list.

Why?

Because I want to read what I want to read, which boils down to mysteries and seasonal romances. That doesn't mean other genres won't catch my eye or that what I agree to review will be in those genres, but as part of seeking balance and setting boundaries, I'm being more intentional with everything, including reading.

What is a genre you want to read more of this year?

Welcome back to Wednesday! What a week it has been: back-to-back meetings, two accepted offers in three days, and showings. I will be catching up on visiting your blogs today.

This week's Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge asks us to share audiobooks we have enjoyed. I tend to listen to business books, self-help, and professional development books on Audible. Chirp has books I listen to for fun.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is one of my favorite Christmas stories. Hugh Grant's voice makes it all the better.

Many years ago, when a group of Dean Butler fans suggested he write a memoir, we had no idea he would actually write one. Prairie Man: My Little House Life & Beyond by Dean Butler is a wonderful read for any fan of the show.

I had never read The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett until it turned into our first Modern Prairie book club read. What a wonderful story!

Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life by Arnold Schwarzenegger is filled with helpful advice. Such a great book!

Rob Dial, author of Level Up, allows his energy and charisma to shine through as he narrates his book.

Have you listened to any of these books? What are some of your favorite audiobooks?

Welcome back to Wednesday! The middle of the workweek for some, and just another day for others. We are expecting a spot of rain today, but the temperatures are still nice. I will take any day I don't have to wear winter gloves.

This week's Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge asks me to share books about my favorite topic. Narrowing down one favorite topic is tough, but I will go with writing. Here are a few great books about writing:

  • Bird by Bird byAnne Lamott
  • On Writing by Stephen King
  • Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg
  • The Elements of Style by Strunk & White
  • Plot & Structure by James Scott Bell
  • The Well-fed Writer by Peter Bowerman
Have you read any of these? What are some books about your favorite topic?

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: Fictional Things I'm Glad Are NOT Real

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. They offer this blog hop as a weekly prompt to help you gain new friends and visitors. You don't have to participate every week, but if you decide to post and join the blog hop for a week, Long and Short Reviews requests that you share your link in their weekly post on their website (which will be the top post on the home page each Wednesday morning). We have fallen upon Wednesday again. Are you having a great week? We've been talking about fictional things we wish were real. But for this week's Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge, we are flipping the coin to talk about fictional things we are glad are not real. Wow! Just thinking about this topic makes me shiver. Here are a few:

Zombies

A writer for The Harvard Gazette conducted an interview about zombies with Dr. Steven Schlozman, a former assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. This interview captures how frightening these creatures are and why. Schlozman says, "...the really terrifying thing about zombies isn’t that they will bite you and turn you into a zombie; it’s the idea that humans can get robbed of themselves, and that’s really scary. The idea of a person not being themselves, but still recognizable as a person, is a terrifying notion." That sure sums it up for me.

The Blob

I still remember being scared out of my mind by scenes in this movie. The Blob, as stated on Wikipedia, is a carnivorous amoeboidal alien that crashes to Earth inside a meteorite, landing in Pennsylvania. It engulfs living beings, growing larger and getting more aggressive the more people it envelops. Yuck!

The Hunger Games

Let's just get this out of the way right now. I would be one of the first tributes to die. Though I have a strong survival instinct, I am not athletic, would likely not come close if I had to shoot someone, and my highly sensitive skin just couldn't cope under any of the odd conditions in the Games.

What are some fictional things you are glad are not real?
