February Featured Book: The Jaguar Legacy by Maureen Fisher

During the month of February, The Book Connection will be participating once again in National Blog Posting Month--which means we are going to try and post new entries every day of the month.

In addition to the authors on tour who I am hosting in February, I will be diving into my very large bookshelves to highlight some of my favorite romance novels. And to start us off, I want to highlight the book that was truly responsible for drawing me to romance novels--The Jaguar Legacy by Maureen Fisher.

When I reviewed this book in December 2007, I remember reading ahead to get to the love scenes--yes, I'm naughty--because Fisher created such realistic characters that I felt I knew them and I wanted to see them get together. I actually read the love scene about four times, because it was that well done. In addition, while I never considered myself to be a huge fan of the paranormal, the way Fisher wrote this story, I couldn't put it down. I would stay up late every night reading. The exhaustion was well worth it.

The Jaguar Legacy by Maureen Fisher

The Jaguar Legacy is an outstanding, gripping, and suspense-filled novel by first time author, Maureen Fisher.

Charley Underhill's journalism career has been put on hold thanks to a series of strange panic attacks. Searching to get back on track, Charley travels to a Mexican archaelogical dig hoping to grab a great story, which will resuscitate her career and give her enough money to put her alcoholic mother into rehab.

When Charley arrives unannounced, Dr. Alistair Kincaid is less than thrilled. His reputation has been ruined once before, and the last thing he needs is some nosey reporter poking around. But the next plane won't arrive for a week, so they are stuck with each other.

The plane also left behind another package--Kincaid's ex-wife, Leila. He's even less happy to see her, especially after the way she betrayed him. But Leila thinks it might be time for a reconciliation.

Kincaid's reputation as a ladies man makes Charley want to keep him at bay, but she can't deny her attraction to him. After Kincaid and Charley negotiate terms on an interview, he turns on the charm, hoping the feisty, beautiful Charley will keep his bed warm for the next week.

Dangers at the dig site erupt as Kincaid and his team get ever closer to uncovering an ancient Olmec city, and Charley's panic attacks kick into overdrive, leading her to wonder what connection the attacks have to the site. As Kincaid's field director warns him that disturbing the site could put them all at risk, Leila's late night walks through the jungle leave Charley concerned about what she might be up to. And as Charley's attraction to Kincaid grows, she wonders if she can do what is necessary to save her career and her mother from certain death.

Outstanding and Powerful! The Jaguar Legacy by Maureen Fisher had me hooked from the first word to the last. Fisher has woven ancient mysteries, past lives, and pure evil, into a story that left me begging for more. These characters were so well-developed, the storyline so well-written, the setting so perfectly described, that I felt I knew these people and followed them along their journey into darkness.

I eagerly await Maureen Fisher's next release.

Paranormal Romantic Suspense by Maureen Fisher

Today The Book Connection features author Maureen Fisher. Born in Scotland, Maureen immigrated to Canada at the age of seven. Maureen spent many years in the business world working outside of her home, but traded in her power suits and panty hose so she could concentrate on writing. Maureen and her husband live in Ottawa, where she volunteers for an addiction family program, plays bridge, and slaves over her computer to improve her writing skills.

When Maureen decided she wanted to write books, she didn't want to write those dry, boring, technical treatises she used to; she wanted to write funny romantic suspense novels.

I think she hit her mark!

THE JAGUAR LEGACY

Ancient Danger Stalks the Jungle on Velvet Paws…

What if she had lived before? What if she had created a legacy of betrayal that spanned several millennia? What if passion could heal her soul and love could release her from bondage?

THE JAGUAR LEGACY is a vivid story of romance and humor, peril and suspense, betrayal and trust, healing and absolution.

Despite baffling panic attacks that devastated her career, journalist Charley Underhill barges in on a Mexican archaeological dig, bent on sniffing out a juicy exposé that will restore her reputation and earn enough money for her mother’s life-saving treatment. Haunted by past betrayals, Dr. Alistair Kincaid isn’t about to let a smart-mouthed reporter leak word of his latest discovery, an ancient Olmec city, to the press. A battle of wills and wits ensues. Strands from a past life intertwine with the present, drawing the couple into a vortex of chilling evil. Torn between redeeming her soul and betraying the man she loves, Charley faces impossible choices.
