It's Monday! What Are You Reading? and Mailbox Monday - May 30

Welcome to It's Monday! What Are You Reading? and Mailbox Monday.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It's a great post to organize yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date.

Welcome to the last Monday of May. Today is Memorial Day in America, a time to remember all those who have died in service to the United States. I hope you'll join me in sharing a moment of silence.

On Saturday, the Lil' Princess graduated from high school. I am so proud of her for all her accomplishments and excited as she prepares to leave for North Carolina in August to start at UNC Wilmington.

I still need to write the review for this book. It is coming, I promise. Book is fabulous, but read the first book before this one.

Posted a review of this book at my children's book blog on Wednesday.

A First Chapter Review appeared here on Thursday. Hope to read the rest of the book soon.

I am reading these books now.

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came in their mailbox during the last week. Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

This is the one book Amazon delivered this past week. I already started it, but need to stay on top of books for review first.

The New York Times bestselling author and star of Little House on the Prairie returns with a new hilarious and heartfelt memoir chronicling her journey from Hollywood to a ramshackle house in the Catskills during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Known for her childhood role as Laura Ingalls Wilder on the classic NBC show Little House on the Prairie, Melissa Gilbert has spent nearly her entire life in Hollywood. From Dancing with the Stars to a turn in politics, she was always on the lookout for her next project. She just had no idea that her latest one would be completely life changing.

When her husband introduces her to the wilds of rural Michigan, Melissa begins to fall back in love with nature. And when work takes them to New York, they find a rustic cottage in the Catskill Mountains to call home. But “rustic” is a generous description for the state of the house, requiring a lot of blood, sweat, and tears for the newlyweds to make habitable.

When the pandemic descends on the world, it further nudges Melissa out of the spotlight and into the woods. She trades Botox treatments for DIY projects, power lunching for gardening and raising chickens, and soon her life is rediscovered anew in her own little house in the Catskills.

That's it from me. Hope you share some great books you've come across recently.

First Chapter Review: First Bite by Avery Daniels

Today's First Chapter Review is of the first book in the Accidental Vampire PI series by Avery Daniels, First Bite

BLURB:
In 24 hours, Misty Summers had the worst date of her life, was bit by a vampire, and her PI boss may close his business as he goes through a divorce. Looking on the positive side, she decides to use her new vampire assets and become the private investigator to keep her income. She doesn’t know what her future holds, but it can’t be any worse! When she starts following up on a missing woman’s case, she finds herself in the middle of murder.

COVER:
I've loved the covers of all of this author's books, but this one is super adorable. Perfect colors and font for the paranormal cozy mystery genre. The cat is a plus.

FIRST CHAPTER: Misty Summers has just been on the worst blind date of her life, resulting in her walking home through the seedy part of town. Little does she know, her troubles are just getting started.

KEEP READING: For sure. Daniels has a great writing style. I totally love her smart-alecky female leads. Paranormal isn't always what I reach for, but when it's combined with an intriguing mystery, it will capture my attention. That this book is by an author I enjoy, means I can expect to be satisfied at the end; she never disappoints. Based on the first chapter, this story will move along at a good pace. I hope to read the rest of First Bite soon.

Release Date: May 1, 2022
Publisher: Blazing Sword
Ebook: ASIN; 290 pages; $2.99

I received the first chapter of this book from the author through Pump Up Your Book. This review contains my honest opinions, which I have not been compensated for in any way.

Avery Daniels was born and raised in Colorado, graduated from college with a degree in business administration and has worked in fortune 500 companies and Department of Defense her entire life. Her most eventful job was apartment management for 352 units. She still resides in Colorado with two brother black cats as her spirited companions. She volunteers for a cat shelter, enjoys scrapbooking and card making, photography, and painting in watercolor and acrylic. She inherited a love for reading from her mother and grandmother and grew up talking about books at the dinner table.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? and Mailbox Monday - May 23

Welcome to It's Monday! What Are You Reading? and Mailbox Monday.

Here we are back to Monday. Sorry I am so slow in getting back to all your blogs to reciprocate comments from last week. In addition to the Lil' Princess' graduation coming up on Saturday, I am up against a couple of deadlines. I still have one manuscript to edit, and by Wednesday I need to have all my post-licensing education for North Carolina completed. I took a little break to enjoy a Red Sox game, but I had my laptop with me to listen to lessons on the way to Boston and on the way home.

It was an amazing game and we had great seats. The game went into an extra inning, and the Red Sox were gipped scoring a run at home plate. Moments later, Franchy Cordero hit a walk-off grand slam that won the game. They swept the series against the Mariners.

As far as reading goes, it is almost non-existent. My review on this one is coming.

A First Chapter Review of this one is coming on Thursday.

I am reading these books now.

This one arrived in the middle of the week from one of my favorite authors. I am happy to be reading a new book in a series I love.

I also have a NetGalley copy of this book to read.

That's it from me. Hope you have a wonderful week. Wish me luck in getting everything done in time.

Welcome back to Monday. My plans of reading and posting my review of The Greatest Salesman in the World: Part 2, did not come to fruition, but for good reason. I finished editing one manuscript for a client and have 50 pages left to go on the next one. In addition, I came back from National Harbor, MD to a new listing and am meeting with another potential new client this week. The most exciting news of the week, however, was senior prom. I spent most of Friday with the Lil' Princess, driving her to her hair and make up appointment and visiting with the other parents at the school barbeque where we took photos before the kids went off to the prom site.

So from a reading perspective, other than my daily devotional, it looks the same as last week.

My review on this one is coming.

I am reading these books now.

I also sneak this one in when I can.

Nothing new this week, but that's good considering how little reading I am doing right now.

How was your reading week? Did you come across any great reads?
