The main reason we like to come down to the Outer Banks during the first week of July is to take in the great time in downtown
Manteo followed by the Independence Day activities on the waterfront at the
Roanoke Island Festival Park.
This year we did things a bit differently. We hit the beach in Kill Devil Hills early this morning and had lunch at home. Then a bit after two we headed out for the day. We stopped at The Christmas Shop and Island Gallery and browsed three levels of Christmas decor, antiques, local artwork, gifts, and more. We had to drop in at their candy shop to make sure we had a treat too.
Then it was off to downtown Manteo. We parked the car and spent the day walking through the shops and enjoying the waterfront. They had some great activities for the kids today and live music, so we kept a slow and steady pace. The Lil Diva took a turn at the dunk tank to help support the Outer Banks Dare County Animal Shelter, and we dropped in at
The Hungry Pelican for a light supper before picking up the chairs and heading off to the Roanoke Island Festival Park to wait for the fireworks.
Entertainment was provided by the 440th Army Band, who played before and after the fireworks.
We had a great day and we're already making plans to do it again next year.
How did you spend your Independence Day?
