Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books That Make Me Think of Summer Vacation

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Happy Tuesday! Great to see you here. Today's topic is a summer freebie, so I am going with the...

Top Ten Books That Make Me
Think of Summer Vacation

I vacationed with one of my sisters the first time we visited the Outer Banks, so Summer Sisters by Judy Blume makes me think of vacation time.

I've always wanted to spend a winter at the OBX, making Winter at the Beach by Sheila Roberts a great choice.

Mike Martin's The Walker on the Cape is part of his Sgt. Windflower Mystery series. The colors of the lighthouse pictured on the cover remind me of the Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse in our favorite spot on the Outer Banks--Manteo.

The Outer Banks House by Diann Ducharme is set in Nags Head, the neighboring town down the main highway from where we stay in Kill Devil Hills.

Though the OBX shores are sand dunes instead of red sandstone cliffs, it has several small islands to explore, which reminds me of Anne of the Island by L. M. Montgomery, the third book in the Anne of Green Gables series.

Cape Hatteras Castaway by Sharron Frink is another book set on the Outer Banks. We have climbed the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and regularly use the ferry to travel from Hatteras to Ocracoke Island.

The main character on the cover of Lingering Spirit by Marilyn Meredith could be my twin. I've had hair that length, owned a white jacket and denim capris like these, and I would often walk the beach in Kill Devil Hills in that outfit.

We see so many neat birds on the Outer Banks when we visit. That's why Louie Finds A Friend by Vivian Zabel reminds me of our vacation.

The Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo is a great place for history lovers to visit. In the park, visitors can board the Elizabeth II, a representative 16th-century English merchant ship from the 1585 Roanoke Voyage. We have been onboard more than once. Though it doesn't set sail, it's neat to walk through. They set off fireworks on July 4th every summer over the water. The ship on this cover of Destined Passage by Jean Hackensmith and Kathe Birch reminds me of the Elizabeth II.

Ocracoke Island has become one of our favorite spots on the Outer Banks. It takes an entire day, and we need to bring the dog with us. I've always wanted to rent a house for a night and stay on the island, which is why One Night on the Island by Josie Silver makes me think of our summer vacation.

Have you read any of these? Feel free to share your thoughts. Looking forward to reading what you're blogging about today.
