Top Ten New-To-Me Favorite Authors I Read For The First Time In 2015
Pamela Smith Hill's Laura Ingalls Wilder: A Writer's Life is an academic look at Wilder's life and work. The author does a fine job of showing how Wilder developed her writing and business savvy through the years. She is also the author of Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography.
I knew I would do it eventually--read the Harry Potter series. Now that I am done, I can see why this series became wildly popular. Not being a tremendous fan of the fantasy genre, I can't say I felt a burning desire to read the books, but once I started I couldn't stop. What J.K. Rowling did so well is create a cast of characters I truly cared for, rooted for, laughed with, cried with, and loved. I am sorry I won't get to read any more adventures with them.
Always a fan of true crime, I was thrilled when Caitlin Rother offered me a copy of Dead Reckoning to review. She lays out the story of Skylar Deleon, a former child star, who along with his wife and others plots to kill a retired couple and steal their yacht. Rother covers all sides to this story. This is one of the best told stories in this genre I have read.
Redemption is the third book in Becky Johnson's Charlotte Marshall Mystery series. A strong plot, well-defined characters, and a hint of romance swirl through the pages of this dangerous cat-and-mouse mystery. I plan to pick up the previous two books so I can catch on with Charlotte's backstory.
Taken Away by Patricia Yager Delagrange is a riveting, emotional read. Realistic characters, a fresh plot, and strong sub-stories that added depth to the novel made this a real winner with me. I would love to read more of Delagrange's work.
I'm not big into dieting, so this book caught my eye. Lisa Tillinger Johansen has a no nonsense style that shares "The Skinny" on popular diets and why they don't tend to be effective long-term. Even more important for a busy mom like me is that she helps you put together a realistic plan to lose weight by improving your overall diet and adding in exercise.
Love You Husband Love Yourself by Jennifer Flanders encourages wives to embrace God’s purpose for passion in marriage and love their husbands unconditionally. Much easier said than done--I can attest to that one--but she makes so many valid points that tie back to Scripture it's worth considering again the role God has given to women in marriage.
I know I am shy one book in this meme, but my reading time was sorely diminished this year. Hope you'll share some of your new favorite authors.
Yay! Glad Harry Potter made the list!!
